THE ORIGINS OF HOG THIEF BEND

This photo shows the origins of Hog Thief Bend. The brothers Jeremiah and Obediah McGrog have been prospecting for gold in the hills above the Wette River valley. They have recently struck lucky and Jeremiah is dancing a jig for joy in his long-johns (he hasn’t noticed that Muffin the Mule doesn’t seem to like his dancing and is about to take executive action). Obediah seems so overcome by events that he appears to have stripped off and is dancing in the buff! Snappy, the terrier looks on in disgust. Hearing of this strike, the land agents have already moved in and are busy surveying the area for the township which will inevitably grow as news of the gold strike leaks out. Mountain man Pierre ‘LeGros’ Coqsure is concerned that this invasion of greenhorns will interfere with his trade in beaver.

The brothers were clean-shaven when they started prospecting at Hog Thief Bend!
